Top Construction Companies in The World #UjenziBora (via INDOBANGUN)

This re-blog shortlist is a link to the websites to some of the top construction companies in the world.

I post this because they have set good standards and practice that can be emulated by those joining the industry. They became what they are because in the words of Aristotle, the Greek Physician and Philsopher,

““Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.”

Building a successful construction business is a matter of the pursuit of excellence. It takes many years of hard work and embracing of professionalism in the Game. The websites tell the story, the struggle and the Pursuit of Excellence. I hope you shall enjoy. This is a re-blog of the original post by INDOBANGUN, to whom i am indebted.

In Kenya, the complete list of all the qualified registered companies can be purchased from the Ministry of Public Works for a fee of Kshs.2,000.00 or part thereof (+/-). The Ministry maintains a Current Register of all Contractors in Kenya as at any given time. This list is revised periodically. It also shows the category of registration based on the Volume and Complexity of Construction work the companies can undertake. Companies able to do “unlimited” volume of works are Categorised as “Categoray A Contractors” and this is scaled downwords to B, C, D , etc depending on the capacity of the firms.

We hope that standards shall be raised and improved for the players in the Kenyan Built Environment/Industry. With the introduction of an institutional framework (National Planning and Building Authority) and the relevant Act of Parliamen, we can only hope for the better.

The environment in which Contractors operate has a definite bearing on their performance index in terms of Excellence.I believe with the right enabling environment, we can produce world class Contracting Firms.

CONCLUSION: WHAT IS CONSTRUCTION WORK?

For ease of reference, I would like to draw some few descriptions of what Construction Work consists of.

Construction Work means the carrying out of any building, civil engineering or engineering construction work and includes:-

  1. the construction, alteration, conversion, fitting out, commissioning, renovation, repair, upkeep, redecoration or other maintenance(including cleaning which involves the use of water or an abrasive at high pressure or the use of corrosive or toxic substances), decommissioning, demolition or dismantling a structure;
  2. the preparation for an intended structure, including site clearance, exploration, investigation (but not site survey) and excavation, and the clearance or preparation of the site or structure for use or occupation at its conclusion;
  3. the assembly on site of prefabricated elements to form a structure or the dis-assembly on site of prefabricated elements which immediately before such disassembly formed such a structure; and
  4. the installation, commissioning, maintenance, repair or removal of mechanical, electrical, gas, compressed air, hydraulic, telecommunications, computer or similar services which are normally fixed within or to a structure, but does not include the exploration for or extraction of mineral resources or activities preparatory thereto carried out at a place where such exploration or extraction is carried out.
