REAL ESTATE:a fresher look at the term

This is a quick reflection on what Real Estate IS.

Real Estate is a legal term with origins dating back to mid-15c. It primarily means “relating to things” (esp. property), from Old French word “reel” and from , from the Latin word, “realis” “actual,” from L. res “matter, thing,” of unknown origin.

It also means “genuine” as recorded from 1550s; that of “actually existing” is attested from 1590s; sense of “unaffected, no-nonsense” is from 1847. As you can tell, it has to do with actual things unaffected and of a more immovable nature.

Just like “self-possession” means “having command of one’s possession, “Real Possession” or being a “Realtor” means having a certain degree of command in the act of possessing real property, be it Infrastructure, Land or Landed Property and Fixtures on the earth.

It would be of benefit to distinguish Real Property from the other sort of possessions of a personal nature also called Chattel or Personal Property. Real Estate or real Property is typically considered to be immovable property.

Real estate is first recorded in the 1660s and retains the oldest English sense of the word.
In the main, one could venture in the following and still be rightly said to be an investor in real estate

1. Commercial Property Transactions
2. Loaning & Financing Property Development
3. Practicing as a Professional in real Estate
4. Brokerages in Real Estate
5. Property Management
6. Development : such as was considered in the previous post.

In the future postings, i shall consider some of these broad categories. It has always been my opinion that every industry or trade invented by man has a Language. Its important to understand the basics of that language. That was the intention of this brief post.

There is so much more to learn, so much more to discover, so many opportunities to excel!!!
Have yourself a lovely week.
